Fantasy Fest has grown into a huge annual event in Key West. Originally created almost spontaneously some 24 years ago as an attempt to encourage tourism in an otherwise very slow time of year. Key West hardly needs a reason to hold a party or festival, but Halloween proved to be the perfect inspiration for Fantasy Fest. Start with costumes, add music, beads and ... As you might expect Fantasy Fest activities build throughout the two weeks. The first week is mostly events geared more to the locals. The second week starts to get wild about Wednesday. Nightly parts of Duval street (the main drag in KW) are closed down for street parties. By Friday night it's all of Duval and several side streets, and on Saturday night most of the streets in Old Town Key West are closed to traffic.
